Overall Job Objective

POSITION SUMMARY

Lifeguards provide members, guests and customers with a safe and clean aquatic environment. Their primary duty is to monitor pool activities and ensure member safety. It is paramount that the Lifeguards possess extensive general knowledge of preventative lifeguarding and the rules and regulations of the aquatic environment. Lifeguards are expected to have adequate knowledge of the department's overall operations and facility amenities. It is imperative that our staff treats everyone with the utmost courtesy and respect. We pride ourselves on the provision of excellent customer service. All staff must have a positive attitude and enjoy interacting with the public.

Hourly Pay Rate: $13.86

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintains order in the pool and adjoining areas
  • Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards, enforce and adheres to facility rules and regulations
  • Performs rescues, extrications, first-aid, CPR/AED as required
  • Responds quickly, intelligently, decisively, and following established emergency and accident management procedures
  • Maintains excellent physical condition and attends/participates in all required staff meetings and in-service training sessions
  • Properly stationed and equipped during lifeguarding rotations
  • Meets and greets customers, assists and directs them to the proper swim lesson, class, room, or facility
  • Handles customer issues and complaints professionally and in a timely manner
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge with and ability to effectively communicate all programs and activities offered through the Parks and Recreation Department to citizens and other customers
  • Inspects and ensures facility cleanliness by performing janitorial and maintenance duties, including but not limited to taking out the trash, cleaning restrooms, and vacuuming or sweeping floors
  • Performs maintenance as needed to ensure pool cleanliness, including but not limited to vacuuming the pool and scrubbing pool plaster and tile
  • Checks pool chemicals such as chlorine and PH levels on a routine basis. Document pool chemicals checks
  • Inspects and ensures availability and operation of emergency equipment, including but not limited to safety equipment, safety lines, lane lines, AED, pool drains, ladders, skimmers, play features, and any other equipment
  • Sets up and breaks down tables and chairs for classes, trainings, or meetings
  • Documents all operational checklists and check sheets such as pool opening, play feature, safety, daily operational, cleaning, maintenance, and any other operational lists and check sheets
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 15 years of age or older

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Current Lifeguard Certification or the ability to obtain Lifeguard Certification by June 2024
    • Certification training classes are available from City of Bellaire to help meet this requirement. Contact Aquatics Supervisor Alex Adrion at aadrion@bellairetx.gov for more information.
  • First Aid, CPR and AED Certification
  • Available transportation for work related duties
  • Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of the following pre-employment checks:
    1. Criminal background check (18 years or older)
    2. Controlled substance screening
