City of Bellaire

WORK SCHEDULE:   Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.
WORK LOCATION:  City of Bellaire (Public Works) 4337 Edith St, Bellaire, TX 77401

Mandatory - Overtime, Weekend, Holidays, and Disaster Recovery (when applicable)

This position is responsible for serving as a lead worker in collecting, transporting, and disposing of solid waste and recyclable materials generated within the city. This is accomplished by operating a heavy automotive single or tandem axle refuse packer truck and other equipment for collecting, transporting, and disposing of solid waste materials and recyclables from residential sources.  Other duties include completing routine tasks and filling in for the Solid Waste Crew Leader in their absence.


  • Drives a sanitation vehicle on assigned routes and collects waste, recyclables and refuse
    • Picks up solid waste and recycled materials
    • Transports refuse to landfill
  • Maintains and inspects vehicles and performs safety checks daily
    • Maintains records of work performed for supervisor such as vehicle check list, trip logs and repair reports
  • Participates in any solid waste management activity required of the solid waste management division to adequately perform public service responsibilities
  • Assists in recycling activities
  • Assists in solid waste disposal related activities when not driving a regular route
  • Follows and upholds City and departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Reports to work free from the effects of drugs or controlled substances or alcohol, and free from impairment due to prescription drugs.
  • Essential personnel may require 24-hour call-out for emergency or hazardous situations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • The City reserves the right to require an employee in this position to work overtime including during emergency situations (defined as any natural or man-made disaster that may or may not necessitate the relocation of City personnel or citizens).  In the event of an emergency or a required evacuation, the incumbent may be required to remain at work to provide needed services or perform essential duties for the benefit of the general public including services or duties different from those performed in the normal course and scope of the position.


  • Documentary evidence of graduation from an accredited high school or successful completion of the General Educational Development Test
  • One (1) year of experience in a related position


  • Valid Texas Class B Commercial Driver's License
  • Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of the following pre-employment checks:
    • Criminal background check
    • Texas Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Driving History Background
    • Controlled substance screening
    • Medical fitness examination
