Overall Job Objective


The purpose of this position is to provide support to Municipal Court by providing security in the courtroom by observing activities and protecting individuals during court proceedings. Work is performed under minimal supervision in accordance with standardized training methods as set forth through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. Work is accomplished through assignment by supervisors, self-initiation, and calls for transports or arrests from the community or law enforcement partners.

Salary range - $33.76 - $46.02 per hour
Must be able to work days, evenings, and nights as allocated part-time hours of the position


  • Able to perform all duties as described in the Police Officer job description.
  • Serves as Municipal Court bailiff and provides security by overseeing activities and ensuring they are conducted in an orderly fashion; enforces policies and procedures; and escorts disruptive or violent people from the court. 
  • Performs security checks by searching the courthouse and all persons entering the courthouse.
  • Inspects packages, purses, bags, etc., entering the courtroom for weapons or explosives and monitors persons entering court for possible possession of weapons. Removes illegal materials and files criminal charges
  • Assists court personnel and prosecutors with operations; and escorts jurors to and from court proceedings
  • Calls the court to order when the Judge enters
  • Assists with post-court duties by responding to public inquiries; resolving citizen complaints, and assisting the defendant with financial arrangements
  • Arrests people when necessary
  • Ensures dockets are called
  • Signs affidavits 
  • Ability to work days, evenings, and nights as allocated part-time hours of the position 
  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • Ten or more years of experience as a State of Texas peace officer
  • Active Basic or higher Peace Officer License from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) at the time of appointment
  • Current on TCOLE training mandates
  • Experience or training in personal computer use with Microsoft Office software 
  • Ability to work days, evenings, and nights as allocated part-time hours of the position 


  • Valid Texas Driver’s License 
  • Minimum Basic Peace Officer Certification through TCOLE.
  • Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of the following pre-employment checks: 
    1. Criminal background check including, but not limited to job history, education, criminal history, and driving record
      • No conviction, guilty plea, court-ordered community service or probation, or deferred adjudication for a Class A misdemeanor or a felony. 
      • During last ten (10) years, has not been convicted, plead guilty, been on community service/probation or deferred adjudication for a Class B misdemeanor in this state, other state, or while serving in the military
      • No convictions of family violence
    2. Controlled substance screening
    3. Physical readiness examination
    4. Psychological examination 
    5. Polygraph examination
    6. Oral interview Board
