Chief Plant Operator

CITY SUMMARY: Bellaire, Texas is located seven miles southwest of downtown Houston with a population of approximately 18,862 residents and a span of 3.5 square miles. POSITION SUMMARY: The Chief Plant Operator ensures the efficient operation of the wastewater treatment plant, overseeing daily activities, managing budgets, and maintaining compliance.

SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday 7am-4pm with some required nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency response required on an on-call basis.

PAY RANGE: $33.23 to $48.19 per hour

• Operational Oversight:
• Manages the daily operations of water and wastewater treatment systems, assigning work, and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.
• Maintenance and Analysis:
• Monitors and maintains equipment, performs electrical scans, identifies maintenance needs, and conducts routine system maintenance.
• Resource Management:
• Manages supplies, allocates resources, purchases chemicals and materials, and oversees budgeting.
• Compliance and Reporting:
• Prepares and submits reports to City, state, and federal agencies, ensuring compliance with permits and regulations.
• Personnel Supervision:
• Provides guidance to staff, conducts performance evaluations, and fosters positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Contribute to the team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.

Education                            High School Diploma or GED
Experience                          6-7 years of previous relevant work experience is required. 
Supervisory                         No previous supervisory experience is required.

*An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

  • Class C Ground Water License; 
  • Class B Wastewater License; 
  • Valid Texas Driver's License
