- POSITION SUMMARY
The City of Bellaire is located in southeast Texas and has a population of just over 18,000 residents. Bellaire was founded in 1908 on what was part of a 95-hundred acre ranch, as a residential neighborhood and agricultural trading center. Today, the streets are lined with large oaks and custom-built homes. Bellaire is located minutes southwest of Houston from the city's downtown and the Galleria.The city functions as a residential community with a quality of life that promotes a family atmosphere. We have the great amenities of a big city and the charm of a small town including a quaint downtown area with several shopping and dining options to choose from.
People move to Bellaire for many reasons such as our excellent city services, proximity to pro-sports arenas, cultural events, and world-renowned medical center. Residents have access to full-service fire and police protection, excellent parks and recreation programs, and a city library.
Under direct supervision, Volunteer Firefighters will engage in fire and rescue activities. Duties are usually performed under emergency conditions, frequently involving considerable hazards. Volunteer Firefighters receive training in modern firefighting techniques and equipment, fire prevention, advanced First Aid, CPR, salvage, and related activities. This is an unpaid opportunity that does not lead to permanent employment and does not include employee benefits.Volunteer Firefighter- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Engage in fire and rescue activities
- Respond on a fire apparatus as part of a crew to provide fire suppression, emergency medical service, rescue, hazardous materials response, and other emergency and public services
- Participate in scheduled training and shift work
- Assist in the maintenance and operation of stations and equipment
- Perform minor preventative maintenance, repairs, and upgrades
- Schedule monthly and annual preventive maintenance tasks and equipment testing
- Ensure that all apparatus are disinfected
- Maintain fuel supply for City vehicles
- Assist in fire inspections for conformance with fire and life safety laws and regulations
- Perform enforcement assignments for fire prevention
- Participate in continuing education classes
- Perform other related emergency and non-emergency routine and special assignments as directed
- Engage in fire and rescue activities
- REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 18 years of age or older
- Documentary evidence of graduation from an accredited high school or successful completion of the General Educational Development Test
- LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Driver’s License
- Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of the following pre-employment checks:
- Criminal background check
- Controlled substance screening
