Plant Operator - Wastewater Production
- Job Description
The purpose of this position is to operate and maintain water treatment plant facilities and systems. This is accomplished by collecting and analyzing water samples and performing preventative maintenance and repair. Other duties include performing general ground maintenance.
- Examples of Duties
Maintains plant and related equipment by operating and monitoring pumps, valves, gates and other equipment and performing inspections.
Operates treatment plants and lift stations by monitoring well sites; operating lift stations and wastewater plants; and operating a belt press.
Provides supervision by creating work schedules for operators and laborers and serving as the Chief Plant Operator in absence.
Provides clerical and administrative support by answering phone calls; assisting the Chief Operator with purchase orders; filing paperwork; maintaining computer records; ordering supplies; and copying and faxing documentation.
Conducts laboratory testing by collecting water samples; analyzing for various chemicals; sending samples to a state-approved lab for testing; and recording findings.
Maintains facilities by sweeping floors; picking up debris; cleaning instruments; trimming and removing brush; etc.
Performs other duties as assigned.
- Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent preferably supplemented by technical/vocational courses in water production, wastewater collection and treatment plant operations. Two years' experience in the operation of Water/Wastewater Treatment plant facilities. Must maintain a valid Texas Drivers' license; TCEQ "C" Water license and acquire "B" Water license within two years of employment; and must have a TCEQ "B" Wastewater license.
