Job Description

The purpose of this position is to provide customer and clerical support to the Library. This is accomplished by working at the circulation desk by checking items in and out, assisting patrons in finding items in the library, completing hold requests, collecting fines, assisting patrons with computers, performing general office duties, cataloging new and donated materials, ordering books and AV materials, and preparing purchase order requests. Other duties include assisting in the planning and implementation of special events.

Examples of Duties

Operates the circulation desk by assisting patrons in checking in and out materials; collecting fines and fees; answering reference questions; answering incoming phone calls; and shelving materials.

Catalogs books by entering them into the computer system.

Provides clerical support by processing books; pulling materials for special collections; typing and filing documentation; and answering phone calls.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent; ability to read, write and utilize the Dewey Decimal classification system; knowledge and ability to file alphabetically.

Ability to provide exceptional customer service to diverse population of library patrons.

Computer Literacy to operate the circulation desk.
