Camp Group Lead

Supervise and assist with day camp activities for children and perform related tasks as required. Direct, demonstrate, plan, organize, and lead day camp activities, interact with campers and their parents and provide indoor and outdoor enrichment programs. Responsible for actively supervising all activities and events for programs. Ensure the safety and well-being of program participants and perform other duties as required.

• Organize, lead, and promote interest in a wide variety of recreational activities, such as arts, crafts, sports, games, and hobbies
• Actively and enthusiastically participate in all activities
• Be prepared for various rainy days, last-minute schedule adjustments, and downtimes.
• Track daily attendance and send rolls to the Camp Coordinator each morning
• Assess the needs and interests of individuals and groups and plan activities, accordingly, given the available equipment or facilities
• Direct and support activities such as swimming lessons, arts and crafts, sports instruction, fitness, and outdoor programming
• Develop and lead activities designed for the age and abilities of the campers
• Seek and analyze feedback from youth, families, and staff regarding the quality, safety, and enjoyment of the program and staff
• Enforces program rules and regulations, maintains discipline, safeguards against accidents, and instructs children in the safe use of equipment
• Responsible for knowing each camper’s special needs to include food allergies, medications, emergency contact information, and other information required for the safety of campers
• Coordinate and discuss camper care with the Camp Health Care Manager or Camp Coordinator when needed
• Check all Parent Communication Sheets daily and report concerns to your Camp Coordinators
• Provide parents appropriate feedback and information about their campers utilizing Parent Communication Sheets as needed
• Enforce rules and regulations of recreational facilities to maintain discipline and ensure safety
• Ensure that program areas are kept free of hazards and debris
• Ensure campers are always supervised, including group management and organization during lunchtime, camp arrival, camp dismissal, and off-campus field trips
• Ensure that first aid supplies are in possession when traveling with groups on field trips
• Report hazards or noticeable facility damage to the Camp Coordinators and Bellaire Parks and Recreation Staff immediately
• Provide ongoing positive and constructive feedback, support, and direction to campers and group counselors
• Address performance concerns of counselors promptly, directly, fairly
• Report all performance problems to the Camp Coordinator 
• Report counselor absences to the Camp Coordinator  to ensure your group has the right coverage
• Serve as the primary responder to all camper concerns or behavioral issues, report issues to the Camp Coordinator when appropriate
• Assist the Camp Coordinator in the evaluation of Camp Counselors 
• Participates in staff meetings; assists in planning special events, and provides information about programs to the public
• Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior
• Perform other duties as requested or required

16 years of age or older

• Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of the following pre-employment checks:
  • Criminal background check if 18 years old or older
  • Controlled substance screening
